About the event
🀄 Mahjong Tournament Lessons
There's a moment that happens to almost every Mahjong player. You've got the tiles down. You know your hands. You can hold your own at the table on a Tuesday night. And then someone mentions a tournament — and suddenly there's scoring, and point keeping, and a whole set of rules nobody taught you.
Mahjong Tournament Lessons on Wednesday, October 7 is where that gap closes — a relaxed, beginner-friendly evening at the winery that takes you from casual player to someone who could comfortably sit down at a real tournament table.
Who this is for
Whether you graduated from our 101 and 102 lessons and want to know what comes next, you've been playing at home for years but have never kept score formally, or you're eyeing an actual tournament and want to walk in prepared, this evening was built for you. Come solo and meet the table you didn't know you needed, or bring the friends you already play with. And to be clear: this is a lesson, not a competition — nobody is going to out-play you here.
What actually happens
Our Le Mahj Club instructors — all Oh My Mahjong Certified — will walk you through the pieces of tournament play that casual games skip entirely: how point keeping actually works, how scoring is tallied hand by hand, the etiquette expected at a tournament table, and the strategic thinking that changes when points are on the line.
Then you'll put it to work. The second half of the evening is a guided mock tournament, where you play real rounds with instructors circulating table to table — answering questions in the moment, keeping score alongside you, and correcting the small things before they become habits. It's the difference between reading the rules and living them.
What you'll leave with
By the end of the night, you'll know how to keep score, how to conduct yourself at a tournament table, and how to think about a hand strategically rather than just hopefully. More than that, you'll have already done it once — so the first real tournament you enter won't be your first tournament.
