Professional Photography at Painted Horse Winery: Pricing, Policy, and How to Book Your Shoot

We get asked about photo shoots a lot — and we get it. Our twenty-two acre estate , a working farm, and multiple distinct spaces make for a pretty compelling backdrop. Whether you're shooting engagements, family portraits, senior sessions, branding content, or editorial work, here's everything you need to know about booking a photography session at Painted Horse Winery in Milton, Georgia.

Professional Photography at Painted Horse Winery
Personal Photo Sessions — $100 for a 2-hour window This covers engagement sessions, family portraits, senior photos, maternity shoots, and similar personal milestone photography.
Commercial Photo Sessions — $500 for a 2-hour window This applies to editorial work, brand campaigns, product photography, content creation for business use, and any session where the images will be used commercially. That includes hiring a photographer to shoot content that promotes your business or products using our property as the backdrop — so if you're a boutique shooting your next collection here, a realtor doing branding photos, or a small business creating social content, that's a commercial session.
The simplest way to think about it: If a professional photographer is behind the camera, or if the images are promoting a business, product, or service, it's a commercial session. Personal sessions are for personal milestones — engagements, family portraits, senior photos, maternity shoots — where the photos are for you and your family.

What You Get Access To
Our property has a range of settings within a short walk of each other — which means variety without relocating. Depending on availability and the time of year, your session may include access to:
The Vineyard Rows — Parallel lines of vines that photograph well in every season. Spring and summer give you full green canopy; fall brings golden and amber tones; winter offers clean, structured lines with open sky.
The Overlook at the Vines — Our newer vineyard terrace with a natural canopy created by a large tree trunk. Great for intimate, shaded portraits with depth.
The Gazebo and Fountain — A more traditional portrait setting with structure and symmetry.
The Green — An open outdoor space that works well for larger groups or when you want natural light without obstruction.
The Chicken Coop Bar — Yep, you read that right, a bar, at a chicken coop!
The Pool — A unique setting that adds a lifestyle element to your shoot. Works especially well for branding sessions, editorial content, and summer portraits.
The Garden — Lush, textured, and full of natural color. A go-to for close-up portraits and detail shots where you want a softer, more organic feel.
The Farm Setting — We're a working farm. Depending on the day, you may encounter our cows (Daisy, Chamomile, and Dandelion), Fraunky the donkey, Pedro the goat, sheep, ducks, and horses — including Misty & patch. Animals are part of the property, not props, so they do their own thing, but they tend to be curious and camera-friendly.

How to Book
Step 1: Email us to check availability for your preferred date and time. Include the type of session (personal or commercial), your estimated group size, and any specific spaces you're hoping to use.
Step 2: We'll confirm availability and send you an invoice. Payment secures your booking.
Step 3: Show up, shoot, and enjoy the property for your 2-hour window.
We do ask that all sessions are booked and paid in advance — no walk-up professional shoots, please. This lets us make sure your session doesn't conflict with events, tastings, or private bookings, and that you get the space to yourself as much as possible.
The Social Media Ask
One thing we do require for all paid photography sessions: tag Painted Horse Winery on social media when you share the images. That's it. We don't require watermarking, we don't ask for free images, and we don't restrict how you use the photos within your session type (personal or commercial). Just tag us so we can see your work and share the love.

Tips for Photographers Shooting at Painted Horse
We've hosted enough sessions to know what works well here. A few things worth knowing:
Best light windows: Golden hour is stunning in the vineyard rows — the light comes through the vines at an angle that's hard to beat. Morning sessions (especially weekdays) tend to be quieter on the property.
Weekday vs. weekend: Weekends are busier with tasting room guests and events. If you want the most flexibility and fewest people in your background, weekday mornings or early afternoons are your best bet.
Seasonal considerations: Spring (April–May) and fall (September–November) are our most popular seasons for photo sessions — and our busiest event seasons. Book early if you're targeting those windows. Summer gives you lush greenery and long light. Winter is underrated — bare vines and soft light make for clean, dramatic compositions.
Props and equipment: Standard photography gear is welcome. If you're bringing lighting rigs, large reflectors, or anything that requires setup time or power, let us know in advance so we can plan around it. Please don't move barrels, furniture, or farm equipment — and leave the property the way you found it.
The animals: For an additional $100 you can add the animals to your photos. That includes being in with the animals with a handler. Animal time is only 1 hour.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a professional photographer to book a session? Nope. If you want to bring your own camera and do a personal shoot on the property, the personal session rate applies. The policy is about how the property is being used, not about credentials.
I'm hiring a photographer for family photos — is that personal or commercial? If a professional photographer is shooting personal milestone photos for you (engagement, family, senior portraits, maternity), that's a personal session at $100. If a professional photographer is shooting content to promote a business — yours or anyone else's — that's a commercial session at $500, even if it's "just for social media."
Can my clients purchase wine during the shoot? Absolutely. The tasting room is open during regular hours, and many photographers build in time for their clients to enjoy a glass between setups. We love that.
What happens if it rains? We have covered and indoor spaces — the Barrel Room, the Cellar Room, and the Fireplace Room all work beautifully regardless of weather. If rain changes your plans, we'll work with you to reschedule or pivot to indoor spaces.
Is there a cancellation policy? If you need to reschedule, just give us reasonable notice and we'll find another date. We're a farm — we understand weather happens.
Can I use the photos for a styled shoot or publication submission? That falls under commercial use. Book at the commercial rate, and the images are yours to submit wherever you'd like. Just tag us when it publishes.
Do you offer any partnership or preferred photographer arrangements? We're always open to conversations about ongoing partnerships with photographers who shoot here regularly. Email us and let's talk about what that could look like.
Why Photographers Choose Painted Horse
We're 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta, but it feels like a different world out here. The property offers the kind of variety that usually requires multiple location stops — vineyard, farm, rustic interiors, open fields, structured gardens — all within walking distance. Your clients get a full session's worth of variety without getting back in the car.
We're also a real, working farm winery — not a styled backdrop. The textures, the light, the animals, the barrels — it's all genuine, and that comes through in the images.
