About the event
ABOUT THE EVENT
Ever scroll through Pinterest thinking "I could totally make that centerpiece," then stand in the floral aisle at Whole Foods feeling completely lost? You're not alone. That gap between the gorgeous holiday arrangement you're picturing and knowing where to even start—that's exactly what this workshop bridges.
Anna Somerville started her own floral journey in her backyard garden, learning as she went with two little ones by her side. That journey from "I can't keep plants alive" to professional designer means she gets it—she knows exactly what it feels like to stare at stems and greenery wondering how they're supposed to become something beautiful. And she'll show you that they can, and that you can make it happen.
THE EXPERIENCE
This hands-on workshop offers anyone who's ever admired a holiday floral display (and wondered how to recreate it) a chance to learn professional techniques right here at Painted Horse Winery & Vineyards, Milton's founding winery and Georgia's first woman-founded farm winery.
Here's what your evening will look like:
You'll start with Anna's guidance on selecting and layering holiday elements—rich red blooms, winter greenery, and those unexpected touches that take a centerpiece from "nice" to "wait, you made that yourself?" Then comes the hands-on part: you'll design your own arrangement, learning techniques for creating height and fullness, balancing bold color with texture, and making it look effortlessly elegant.
By the time you secure that final sprig of evergreen, you'll have a centerpiece worthy of your holiday table—or impressive enough to be the hostess gift everyone remembers. Even better? You'll understand the why behind every placement, which means you can recreate this magic at home long after the workshop ends.
This isn't just learning to arrange flowers—it's claiming two hours in the busiest month of the year to create something beautiful with your hands, surrounded by people who understand that slowing down is exactly what December needs more of.

WHO SHOULD COME
This workshop is perfect for:
Anyone who's ever walked past a holiday floral display and thought, "I wish I could create something like that" (and then walked away because you didn't know where to start)
Friends looking for a creative twist on your annual holiday gathering—something that's actually memorable instead of just another dinner out
Mother-daughter duos, sisters, or best friends who want to create together while catching up (hands busy, hearts full, conversation flowing)
The designated hostess who's tired of arriving empty-handed or spending a fortune on arrangements that die in five days
Solo adventurers who love learning new skills in beautiful settings surrounded by good people (some of the best conversations happen over floral design)
Holiday hosts who want to elevate their tablescape without adding to the December stress
Wine lovers who want to add another layer to their vineyard experience (create, sip, savor—it's all part of the evening)
Anyone who secretly suspects they might be good at this but has never had the chance to find out
Never arranged flowers before? Perfect. Anna designed this workshop specifically for all skill levels, and honestly, our holiday workshops fill with people who arrive saying "I'll probably mess this up" and leave with centerpieces that look professionally designed.
Whether you're someone who can keep orchids alive for years or someone who kills even spider plants, Anna meets you exactly where you are. She has this gift for making you feel capable even when you're nervous, and by the end of the evening, you'll wonder why you waited so long to try this.
Age range: This experience works beautifully for adults of all ages. Children 14+ are welcome when accompanied by a participating adult.
